What to Carry, What not to Carry <> India to US Texas

I will directly start with the topic as we have covered the introduction and rest in the previous section.
Please keep in mind that the below draft is from a house makers point of view :)

What to carry?

  1. Universal travel adapter
  2. A step up transformer if you are planning to get any electric appliances from India
    • Would not suggest this unless utmost necessary, its better you purchase appliances here
  3. Bed sheet and pillow covers (Expensive in US)
  4. Under garments ( Not sure if we can get a perfect fit + they are costlier here)
  5. Swimming costume - Even if you don't know how to swim, please carry it as we have cool places in the US for non swimmers too
  6. Traditional Wear ( Not more than 2-3 if you are struggling with the luggage weight )
  7. Umbrella (MUST, you never know when it might rain in the states)
  8. Only get home made masalas (red chilli powder etc)
    • You get literally every food item in Irving/Dallas that you get in India
  9. Ready to make for initial couple of weeks
  10. Rice cooker and containers with extra gas kits and whistles (Expensive in US)
  11. Chakla Belan (Expensive in US)
  12. Masala Dabba (Expensive in US)
  13. Oil container ( Less + Costlier choices as compared to India )
  14. A good Indian potato skin peeler and knife, if you have favorites
  15. At least 1 set of cooking and dinning essentials
    • Spoon (Big and small)
    • Plate
    • Bowl
    • Mug
    • Kadai
    • Tawa
  16. Medicines (Make sure you do not get excess or the medicines which are about to expire)
    • Ensure you carry prescriptions for all them
  17. All the things required for Pooja (Worshiping the God) (Expensive in US)
  18. The smallest pack of body, face and cloth washing soap ( For 1-2 weeks )
  19. Carry some dry snacks like theplas, bread butter, packed food etc to munch in the flight
    • This helps when you are hungry or watching a movie in the flight :p
    • This also comes to rescue when you get hunger pangs after landing
  20. List/Details about what is filled in each travel bag
    • We made sure we fill it up in a google sheet so that we have less chances of losing it
    • This made our life very easy as we just glanced at the list and started unpacking only necessary luggage in week 1. Plus my husband never panicked in my absence :p

What not to carry?
  1. Electric appliances do not work here unless you have a transformer
  2. Excess Clothing - There are major sales in the US which are very pocket friendly
  3. Leather Jackets and shoes
  4. Winter wear  (If you are landing in Winter just carry 1 Jacket until you get a new one from US)
  5. No flours, lentils, seeds in any of the food items
  6. Pillow, Eye mask or ear plug are provided in 99.9% of international flights
  7. Excess of soaps, perfumes, make up etc as US is the best place to shop for these items (E.g. At Bath and body works)

There are 100 more things I can mention but these are the most crucial ones that I could think of :).
If you have any other concerns drop by in comments section and I will get back to you.
